After graduating BSID, and about a year each at an East Coast design firm, NCR Corporation in San Diego, and a tech start-up in Silicon Valley, Jim Mielke established Mielke Design in 1984, in Silicon Valley.
Mielke's strength is the skill set that is the combination of attractive and elegant industrial design, with the real world detail of mechanical engineering and Design for Manufacturing. The concurrent application of design and engineering results in comprehensive and uncompromised solutions, as compared to a typical design team that hands industrial design concepts to a separate engineering team.
Jim Mielke realized early in his career that he enjoyed hands-on designing, more than attending meetings and managing other designers. To this day, when Mielke Design takes on a project, it's Jim that does, and enjoys the work.
