Industrial design makes the physical and emotional connection between manufactured products and people. It makes a product's function apparent, it's use intuitive, feel good to use, and something of beauty and elegance. It creates a perceived sense of value.
Industrial design is more than art. It's data collection, human factors, creative form exploration within logical constraints, and integration of individual components into a unified form. And finally, the art of seeing the potential beauty that lies within that functional form, and bringing it forward for all to see.
Industrial design also includes the ability to communicate design concepts with drawings, images, and models, understandable by people of widely varied disciplines.
